The Building Business

Assurance and technical documentation for building product suppliers

The Building Business (TBB) provides assurance and technical documentation for suppliers of building products.

TBB’s pass™ helps suppliers of overseas or New Zealand manufactured building products show how their products comply with the Building Code when used as intended - by compliance via an acceptable solution, a verification method, an alternative solution, or a combination of the three.

Good assurance and technical documentation for a building product provides clear instructions about the performance, use, design, installation, and care and maintenance of the products, making it more usable and more marketable.

In April 2025, the government announced new legislation has been passed that will work within the existing framework of acceptable solutions and verification methods that provides for a new building product specifications pathway that will streamline the process of citing international product standards that can be used with acceptable solutions or verification methods to establish compliance with the building code. Read the government’s press release here: https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/going-growth-more-affordable-building-products

Our products

pass™

A pass™ is a product assurance supplier statement, TBB’s own brand of product technical statement.

The pass™ brand is a widely-recognised and well-accepted consenting tool that can be used to demonstrate Building Code compliance, and can be used as a tool for designers, specifiers, installers and building consent authorities.

Evaluations

Evaluations provide a way of demonstrating compliance with the Building Code. Evaluations can either be an evaluation of installation details or an evaluation of tested metrics of a product to demonstrate compliance.

Evaluations can be used to support pass™.
