The new regulations for building product information requirements (BPIR) require information to be disclosed by Aotearoa New Zealand-based manufacturers, importers, retailers, and distributers about their products.
-
The new regulations for building product information will come into effect on 11 December 2023.
-
A pass™ is primarily a consenting tool but can also be used to provide much of the information required under the new building product information regulations, however, there is some additional information you will need to provide on your website about your product or products and some other requirements you will need to meet.
-
You will need to provide on your website:
• Your pass™; and
• Design, installation and maintenance requirements for your product in the form of a manual or manuals, or website text
• Details about the overseas manufacturer of the building product if applicable. The details that are required include legal and trading names, address, website, email address and NZBN.
There are also a number of requirements that relate to how the information is made available and for how long the information needs to be displayed, and what is required to be displayed where products are sold.
-
To ensure you are meeting your obligations, we recommend you
• read the MBIE material on the changes to the requirements for product information
• consider the advice from MBIE and the requirements of the regulations
-
A pass™ is renewed annually to ensure the information is current and up to date. We will send reminders and update any product changes before reissuing.
